The 2025 Urban Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program (Urban CAMP) is designed to empower NYC farmers and agricultural advisors in their journey to gain and share knowledge and tools needed to be resilient in the face of climate uncertainty. This program is a partnership between Cornell University, the Harvest NY Program in Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the USDA Northeast Climate Hub. The Urban CAMP curriculum draws heavily from the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Fellowship (CAMF), created in response to farmers' need for information and technical assistance related to climate change.

The program begins February 26, 2026 and will run through September 2026. There will be a total of three in-person farm tours during the growing season (dates TBD). Session 4: Climate Planning

Session 5: Climate Funding and Resources

Learn the fundamentals of mushroom propagation in this demonstration lab session. We'll review the essentials for:

• sterile lab technique
• DIY mycology equipment
• cloning mushrooms to create starter cultures
• creating liquid culture spawn
• sawdust spawn development for inoculating logs to grow mushrooms outside

In-person participants will leave with a cloned mushroom sample and a liquid culture syringe of their chosen species.

No prior experience is needed--just curiosity and a love for fungi!

Join Cornell's network of Community Mushroom Educators and the NYRP Urban Ag team to learn how to grow Shiitake mushrooms on logs. This hands-on workshop will include plenty of opportunity to practice drilling and filling logs with shiitake mushroom spawn. In addition to experiential learning, we'll explore the benefits of mushroom cultivation and tour the NYRP log yard, discussing best practices for maintaining a successful outdoor mushroom-growing system.
